Your eyes were half-lidded as you walked down the hallway of Luna Nova. You were exhausted and wanted nothing more than to sleep, but the day was only half over. Why did you think it was a good idea to stay up reading manga all night long? You considered skipping classes, but you’d never hear the end of it from Amanda. You rubbed your eyes roughly in a poor attempt to remove the sleep.
You pretty much went through the day as a zombie; the teachers didn’t appreciate your change in attitude and scolded you for not paying attention to their lesson. Maybe if you weren’t so damn boring I wouldn’t fall asleep, you thought with a scowl after being yelled at by Finnelan-sensei. She’s so uptight, honestly you can’t stand her.
The day was finally over, and you couldn’t wait to get into bed and sleep. Unfortunately, fate had other plans for you.
An arm swung around your shoulder as your best friend appeared at your side. Amanda grinned at you, wagging her finger in your face. “Congrats on pissing off every teacher in one day.”
You scoffed. “For the record, I only pissed off most of the teachers. I didn’t see Nelson-sensei or Ursula-sensei today.”
“What are you talking about? Class is over.”
“Not for you!” She slapped you on the back before stopping in front of you. “Ursula-sensei asked me to find you. She wants to talk to you~”
Crap, she’s totally gonna scold me. You groaned, wishing your friend was just messing with you, but as her expression didn’t falter, you knew she was telling the truth. “I’ll see you later, I guess.”
“Good luck~” She waved as you backtracked, heading towards Ursula’s office.
You stifled down a yawn before knocking on her door.
“Sensei? You called for me, yeah?” You shut the door behind you and approached the blue-haired woman.
She smiled kindly at you, patting the chair beside her. “Have a seat, I’d like to talk to you for a moment.”
You attempted to swallow down your nerves. “Sure, what’s up?”
“I know you’ve been struggling with Magic Numerology, so I wanted to offer you a hand.”
Was the world ending? No, but it sure as hell felt like it to you at that moment. It’s your absolute worst subject on a good day – there’s no way you’d be able to register anything with your tired mind. Even so… looking at Ursula’s bright smile stopped you from telling her that. She’s your favorite teacher, and she never gives up on any of her students – not even Akko who is currently the lowest level in your grade. The last thing you wanted to do was let her down. You were determined to force your mind awake.
Too bad life doesn’t work like that. You survived for about five minutes before your eyes started to feel like lead. A yawn tried to pass your lips but you refused it.
Ursula smiled softly, placing her hand gently on your cheek. “Why don’t you get some sleep. We can finish this tomorrow.”
You frowned. You had thought that you were doing a good job of hiding it, but she’s just too observant. “Sorry, sensei…”
She shook her head. “There’s no reason to be sorry.” She lead you over to the couch near her desk and you laid down, feeling your eyes close instantly. “Get some rest, dear.” You felt her lips against your forehead.
Your lips pulled up and you yawned before darkness claimed your mind. That night, you had the best dream ever.
